The Yankees took a 6-0 lead after three innings and never looked back, holding the Dawgs to only 2 hits and 2 runs. On the second day of pool play, the Yankees faced the Texas Surge. Jumping out to a quick 5 runs, the Surge never recovered from the lengthy inning in the hot Florida sun. The Yankees tacked on another 4 runs in the fourth inning to take the game 9-2, only surrendering one hit to the Surge. The last of four pool play games was against Big Easy Gold. > In the first round of the gold bracket, the Yankees faced a tough team from Louisiana, the Northshore Dirtbags. The Dirtbags pitchers kept the Yankees bats quiet and as a result, the Yankees lost their first game of the tournament 5-2, getting dropped to the loser’s bracket. Having to win four games in one day, the Yankees started with the Renegades of Alabama. The Yankees jumped up early and took an 8-0 lead after two innings. The Renegades had no answer, as the game ended in an 8-2 victory for the Yankees. With that win, the Yankees next opponent was the Mississippi Bandits, the tournaments #1 seed. The Yankees continued to hit and score early taking a 7-1 lead after two innings. The seven runs proved to be enough as the Yankees won, 7-4, setting up a rematch with the Northshore Dirtbags. With 5 runs in the first inning, the Yankees wore out the Dirtbags ace and played terrific defense throughout the game to hold on to the lead and only allow 2 runs. With the 5-2 win, the Yankees moved onto the Championship game against Oklahoma Elite. As both teams battled over the first three innings, the Yankees felt they had an advantage with deep pitching and tournament long timely hitting. With Oklahoma taking a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning, the Yankees responded with 6 runs of their own to take a 10-4 lead. Oklahoma grabbed another in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough as the Yankees scored 3 more to walk off with a 13-5 mercy rule victory in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Yankees combined for 14 hits in the Championship game, only surrendering 4. Overall, the Yankees outscored their opponents 64-26 over the nine games played. Coach Marc Herrick said it best during the award ceremony, “You were the only team practicing on the field before the tournament, the only team willing to work and stay focused on the goal of winning this tournament, while everyone else was at the beach. And now you are World Series Champions.”
